Sunday Reflections

Updated: Apr 19, 2020

As Senior Strive25 Mentor Nick Adkins demonstrated, a Sunday afternoon is the ideal time to reflect on the previous weeks achievements and create a plan for the coming week to achieve the next stages of your goals.

Nick is using a simple and effective reflection technique that allows him to look back through the previous week in his journal and log achievements.

The questions Nick asks himself at the end of each week are:

  1. My big achievements this week were.

  2. I was able to achieve these because.

  3. The things that distracted me were.

  4. Next week I will do the follow to avoid these distractions.

  5. This week I learnt.

  6. I will use these lessons to improve next week/ or my future by.

Week Goals

The following page of the spread is where you introduce your goals for the following week. These should be based on your big month and year goals, while also taking into consideration our new reflected information from last week.

When planning the weeks goals its important to prioritise work so that your energy is utilised on the most impactful areas. Remember keep your journal practical and impactful, It’s not just about looking good. Once you have done this you should be left with an answer to which one task must I complete before all the others?

Figure A The Eisenhower Matrix is one way that can help you work out what’s a priority and what’s not. Input each of your tasks in the relevant quadrant. Important and Urgent actions should then be the priority.

Try to have goals for your Health & Wellness, Family & Friends, Career, Finance and Personal Development that you focus on each week. Add anything else that you feel is important to you.

Once you have a list of actions to achieve next week and a priority order to effectively achieve them, you can begin highlighting which three goals you want to achieve at the start of each day. This also can be done the night before if you prefer to check in and set up the next day before you sleep. It is also helpful to write in a reward for achieving each goal below it.

One final question which is good to sign off the goals page with is What will a successful week look like. We are looking for clarity in your actions that might not be a goal but something to be conscious of doing. This should fill in any gaps that might limit your success and allow you to visualise achievement. The more conscious we are of doing something the better chance we have an it becoming a habit.
